Vines and experimentation
Castagnoli means tradition but also experimentation. The many years of collaboration with the chemical company Caffaro have been very profitable, and it is continuing with the studies conducted on fertilizer with the American company Dupont.
The clones of sangiovese have been the object of careful research conducted with research university institutes: 134 clones have been analysed, then reduced to 19 and finally to 4. Among these, one has been officially recognised as sangiovese to produce Chianti Classico and called, by specific decree, Rdc. Consequently, Castagnoli produces sangiovese and Chianti Classico with its own clones.
